The challenge

Why Remote Sites Can't Keep Waiting on Diesel

Remote and regional worksites often rely heavily on diesel – but relying on it alone means exposure to delivery delays, premium freight costs and tightening procurement requirements. Here is how project teams are adding electric and hybrid equipment to reduce that exposure.

Fuel Costs Hit Harder Out Here

Diesel prices in remote and regional areas are significantly higher than metro rates. Freight premiums and delivery surcharges add up over a long project. Electric and hybrid equipment removes that cost for the machines it covers, reducing overall fuel spend without changing how the rest of your fleet operates.

Build in a Backup

Remote sites depend on reliable fuel supply – and most of the time that works. But when deliveries are delayed or access is cut off, solar and battery-powered equipment keeps selected machines running regardless of what the supply chain is doing. It is a practical layer of resilience, not a replacement.

Procurement Requirements Are Tightening

Mine sites and government-funded projects increasingly require low-emission equipment as part of RAP commitments and procurement mandates. Getting ahead of this now means you are never scrambling to swap machinery at short notice.

How It Works

What Is Hybrid and Electric Equipment?

Hybrid equipment uses a combination of a conventional engine and an electric drive system. The result is a machine that runs on electric power for the bulk of its operation, switching to engine power only when the work demands it — significantly cutting fuel consumption over a full day’s hire.

For lighting towers and generators, hybrid means the diesel engine only runs when the battery bank needs topping up — not constantly. For scissor lifts and boom lifts, fully electric models produce zero emissions and run quietly, which is increasingly a requirement on mine sites and environmentally sensitive project areas.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Electric equipment removes diesel fuel costs for the machines it covers. On remote sites where diesel is delivered at a premium, the savings per machine per week can be significant. Electric equipment also has fewer moving parts than diesel equivalents, reducing maintenance requirements and unplanned downtime.

Mine spec equipment meets the additional safety and compliance requirements set by mine site operators, including specific lighting, guarding, fire suppression and communication standards. If your project is on or adjacent to a mine site, or your procurement requirements reference mine spec compliance, you will need mine spec equipment.

Hybrid equipment significantly reduces diesel consumption but does not eliminate it entirely. For fully fuel-free operation, solar and electric equipment combined with standalone power solutions is the most effective approach.
